7.5 Lakh Punjab Students to Benefit from New English Learning Drive in 3,600 Schools
In a major initiative to enhance English language proficiency and boost employability among school students, the Punjab Government, in collaboration with EnglishHelper, has launched The English Edge programme. The large-scale English learning initiative will be implemented across 3,600 government schools in 23 districts, benefiting around 7.5 lakh students over the next three years.
Three-Phase Rollout Across the State
The programme will be rolled out in three phases, starting with Phase I, which will cover 500 schools and nearly 3 lakh students from Grades 9 to 12. The initiative focuses on inclusivity, ensuring equitable access to quality English education and recognising language proficiency as a key component of academic and professional success.
This effort follows the MoU signed in March 2021 between the Punjab Government and EnglishHelper, under which nearly 1.5 lakh technology-enabled classes have already been conducted, improving reading and comprehension among students.
AI-Powered Blended Learning Model
The English Edge utilises AI-based learning tools alongside teacher-led classroom instruction to strengthen all four pillars of language acquisition listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
EnglishHelper CEO Deepak Verma stated, “We are excited to scale our proven learning solutions across Punjab at an unprecedented level. The programme addresses all core aspects of English learning through a seamless combination of AI-powered self-learning and classroom teaching.”
The initiative incorporates EnglishHelper’s Reading and Comprehension Assistant and ReadToMe classroom tool, blending self-paced learning with curriculum-aligned instruction to build confidence and global communication skills among students.
Aligned with NEP 2020
Built on modern learning science principles, the programme aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, promoting foundational literacy, equity, and technology-driven learning.
Funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and philanthropic support, The English Edge represents a strong public–private partnership model in education.
Punjab Chief Minister Manik Saha highlighted that the initiative marks a significant step toward bridging the digital and linguistic learning divide, showcasing how government–industry collaborations can foster innovation and educational equity across the state.
