JoSAA 2025: Mathematics and Computing Becomes a High-Choice Course at IIT Jammu
New Delhi, February 25, 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu has recorded a notable rise in student interest for its undergraduate programmes during the 2025 JoSAA counselling cycle, with Mathematics and Computing emerging as one of the most-opted courses among continuing branches.
According to the latest choice count data, the Mathematics and Computing programme at the institute saw its selection figures increase from 7,323 in 2024 to 8,427 in 2025, marking a gain of 15.08 per cent the largest percentage growth among continuing disciplines.
Despite this surge, Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) remained the most preferred branch at IIT Jammu, with 11,396 choices in 2025, reflecting a 13.82 per cent rise from the previous year. Growth was observed across several core engineering areas:
- Electrical Engineering: up to 9,279 choices
- Mechanical Engineering: up to 8,698 choices
- Civil Engineering: up to 8,016 choices
- Chemical Engineering: up to 7,678 choices
- Materials Engineering: up to 6,113 choices
A new addition to the institute’s academic offerings, Engineering Physics, also made an impressive debut, attracting 5,747 choices in its first year, indicating strong initial interest from aspirants.
The growing appeal of the Mathematics and Computing programme underscores an increasing trend among engineering aspirants towards disciplines that combine rigorous mathematical foundations with computing and analytical skills.
Alongside these preference trends, IIT Jammu’s 2025 placement season reported an overall placement rate of 70.8 per cent, with a significant portion of students opting for higher studies or government employment opportunities in addition to campus placements.
