Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad to Build In-House AI Model; GenAI to Be Integrated Across Core Curriculum
Ahmedabad: The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has announced plans to develop a dedicated in-house Artificial Intelligence (AI) model and systematically integrate Generative AI (GenAI) across its academic curriculum, research initiatives, and campus operations. The initiative repositions AI not merely as a specialised elective but as a foundational capability embedded across management disciplines, including strategy, finance, marketing, and operations.
The initiative is being undertaken under a strategic partnership with OpenAI and reflects a broader shift in management education to align with the growing impact of AI on organisations and decision-making processes.
Integration Into Teaching and Learning
According to Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIM Ahmedabad, the Institute will embed AI within case-based pedagogy and classroom engagement to assess how discussions, analysis, and managerial thinking evolve when AI becomes part of the learning process. The objective is to observe and lead pedagogical transformation as AI-enabled interaction between faculty and students becomes more prominent.
Phased Implementation and Capacity Building
The collaboration will support the deployment of ChatGPT Edu across student projects and industry-linked initiatives.
- Curriculum redesign and faculty training are scheduled to begin in April 2026.
- Initial implementation will commence with elective courses.
- Gradual integration into the core curriculum is planned from the 2027 academic batch.
To support this transition, the Institute will roll out Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs) to enhance AI literacy and strengthen digital pedagogy across disciplines.
Preparing Graduates for AI-Enabled Enterprises
The curriculum revamp is aligned with anticipated changes in enterprise workflows, organisational structures, and decision-making processes driven by AI. The Institute aims to prepare graduates not only to function effectively in AI-enabled workplaces but also to lead organisational transformation by integrating AI into strategy formulation and operational execution.
Education-Focused AI Model and Data Governance
In addition to deploying GenAI tools, IIM Ahmedabad is building an education-focused AI model trained on institutional content to ensure data security, governance, and contextual relevance. This approach is intended to provide greater institutional control over data while enabling customised AI-powered learning and research support.
