OpenAI has teamed up with seven top Indian institutions to bring artificial intelligence deeper into classrooms, labs and creative studios. The goal? To help students, teachers and researchers become AI-ready for a fast-changing, tech-driven future.

Who’s part of this partnership?

The first group of institutions includes:

  • Indian Institute of Technology Delhi
  • Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad
  • All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi
  • Manipal Academy of Higher Education
  • University of Petroleum and Energy Studies
  • Pearl Academy

Over the next year, this collaboration is expected to support more than one lakh students, faculty and staff. And this isn’t just about giving access to AI tools the focus is on using AI responsibly and meaningfully across entire campuses.

What will students and faculty get?

With ChatGPT Edu, participants will receive:

  • Enterprise-level AI access
  • Structured onboarding and training
  • Subject-specific guidance (for management, medicine, engineering, design and more)
  • Responsible-use frameworks aligned with university policies

AI skills will be built into everyday academic work like coding, data analysis, simulations, case studies, research and advanced prompting. OpenAI will also support hackathons, build days and industry connect events to link campus innovation with real-world startups and companies.

How each campus will use AI

  • At Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, the focus will be on engineering innovation, applied problem-solving and advanced research using generative AI.
  • At Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, AI will be woven into strategy, finance, marketing, operations, entrepreneurship and public policy courses.
  • At All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi, OpenAI will explore AI tools for medical education and clinical training, including a proposed AI hub focused on safety and ethics.
  • Manipal Academy of Higher Education will focus on large-scale AI literacy and cross-disciplinary research.
  • University of Petroleum and Energy Studies will bring AI into engineering, business, design, law and health sciences.
  • Pearl Academy will use AI in creative fields like fashion, branding, design development and digital media, with a strong focus on ethical use.

Beyond campuses, OpenAI is also working with ed-tech platforms like PhysicsWallah, upGrad and HCL GUVI to launch AI courses for students and early-career professionals.
