Aadhaar-Based Authentication Introduced to Curb Multiple False Attempts in SSC Exams
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has implemented a new Aadhaar-based authentication system to prevent candidates from registering multiple times for the same examination. This significant reform aims to ensure transparency, reduce impersonation, and eliminate fraudulent practices in the government recruitment process.
Introduced in July 2025, the Aadhaar-linked biometric verification will now be mandatory across all SSC examinations, beginning with the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) held on September 24, 2025.
Objective of the Reform
The primary objective of the Aadhaar authentication system is to curb multiple registrations and impersonation during the recruitment process. Previously, some candidates attempted to register and appear in several shifts for a single exam to improve their chances. The new mechanism ensures that every individual can register only once using their Aadhaar credentials.
According to SSC officials, this step represents a “positive development”, contributing to greater accuracy in candidate verification and reducing administrative burden.
Implementation Details
- The Aadhaar-based biometric system was rolled out in collaboration with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) for enhanced monitoring and cybersecurity.
- Each exam centre is now equipped with monitoring devices that track real-time data to detect irregularities such as hacking attempts or misuse.
- Any suspicious activity is immediately flagged to both SSC and CDAC through a central dashboard, ensuring faster corrective action.
Impact on Candidates
The recently conducted SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) 2025 witnessed participation from 13.5 lakh candidates across 126 cities and 255 centres in 45 shifts. A total of 28 lakh applications were received, showing a slight dip compared to previous years.
Officials attribute this decline to stricter authentication and reduced multiple registrations.
As per SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan,
“The new authentication system has eliminated impersonators who used to fill out multiple registration forms for the same exam by altering personal details. We earlier witnessed cases where candidates appeared in up to 18 shifts for a single recruitment exam this will no longer be possible.”
New Evaluation Process
Alongside authentication reforms, SSC has introduced a shift-wise percentile evaluation method to ensure fairness in candidate assessment. Under this process, only the top 5–10% of candidates from each shift are shortlisted for the next stage.
This equi-percentile normalization ensures that candidates from different shifts are compared on an equal footing, regardless of variations in question paper difficulty.
“This is a fairer and more transparent system of comparing candidates across different shifts,”
added Chairman Gopalakrishnan.
Future Scope
From July 2025 onwards, approximately 99% of SSC recruitment exams will be conducted using the Aadhaar-based authentication system. The Commission expects this move to not only prevent malpractice but also to reduce administrative workload, streamline candidate data management, and enhance trust in the examination process.
