The Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT Tirupati), established in 2015, is an autonomous Institute under Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is declared as an Institute of National Importance under the Act of Parliament of India (Institutes of Technology Act, 1961).

Eligibility

Ph.D. Admission (Regular Category)

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. M.E/M.Tech/MS(R) in Engineering OR 5-year Integrated Master’s/B.Tech + M.Tech Dual Degree OR 5-year B.S + M.S (CFTI) OR Master’s in Sciences/Humanities/Management from IITs (CGPA ≥ 8.0; relaxations for reserved categories).
    • No additional requirement
  2. Master’s in Sciences/Humanities/Management (from recognized universities) with valid NLT (GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/NBHM/INSPIRE/JEST or equivalent).
  3. Master’s in Sciences/Humanities/Management without NLT but with:
    • ≥ 5 years relevant experience, OR
    • Master’s from CFI (other than IITs) with CGPA ≥ 8.0 (7.5 for EWS/OBC-NCL, 7.0 for SC/ST/PwD), OR
    • Qualified GRE (international level).
    • (Admitted under Regular-Project category only)
  4. 4-year Bachelors (CFTI) with CGPA ≥ 8.0 (7.5 for EWS/OBC-NCL, 7.0 for SC/ST/PwD).
  5. 4-year Bachelors (Other Universities) with CGPA ≥ 7.0 (6.5 for EWS/OBC-NCL, 6.0 for SC/ST/PwD) + valid GATE.

Part-Time/External/Internal Categories:

  • Same qualifications as above but no requirement of GATE/NET.
  • Additional requirements:
    • External: Minimum 2 years of professional experience; employed in recognized R&D labs/industry/organizations with MoU/DST/DSIR recognition.
    • Part-Time: Employment within commutable distance from IIT Tirupati + ≥ 2 years experience.
    • Internal: Regular IIT Tirupati staff with ≥ 2 years of service.

M.S.(Research) Admission

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology OR Master’s (M.Sc./MCA, etc.) in relevant discipline with valid GATE.
  • Associate Membership of professional bodies (IEI, IETE, etc.) with valid GATE.
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering/Technology from IITs with CGPA ≥ 8.0 (7.5 for EWS/OBC-NCL, 7.0 for SC/ST/PwD) – GATE not required.

Special Categories:

  • External/Part-Time/Internal: Same qualifications as regular, but no GATE required. Must have ≥ 2 years of professional experience.
  • M.S.(R) through Project (IITT Project Staff): Candidate must be employed in a sponsored project under IIT Tirupati’s CSRC with ≥ 2 months of experience. No GATE required.
