Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a system of central government schools established by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. They were created with the vision of providing quality modern education to talented children, predominantly from rural areas, irrespective of their socio-economic background.

Admission Process

Final admission is confirmed after verification and seat acceptance.

1. Notification & Prospectus

The Class XI prospectus PDF is available on the nvsxi_11 page.

The notification invites online applications for lateral entry to Class IX and XI against vacant seats.

2. Online Registration / Application

Candidates must register online via the respective pages (nvsix_9 for Class IX lateral entry, nvsxi_11 for Class XI).

During registration, candidates will upload scanned photograph, signature, parent’s signature, etc. (standard practice)

Applicants need to fill details such as state, district of study/residence, etc.

3. Correction Window

After the registration period, a correction window may be provided (as indicated in the prospectus) for minor edits.

4. Selection Test / Exam

A Selection Test (LEST) is conducted for both Class IX and Class XI lateral entries.

The test is OMR-based, with objective (multiple-choice) questions, bilingual (Hindi & English).

Duration is 2 hours 30 minutes. For Divyang (differently-abled) students, an additional 50 minutes is provided.

For Class IX, subjects include Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science.

For Class XI, sections are Mental Ability, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science.

5. Merit / Selection & Reservation

Selection is based on district-level merit list (candidates whose district of study and residence match the district of the JNV).

Minimum qualifying marks per subject (often ~6 out of 20) and overall cutoffs as per category are applied.

Streams (for Class XI) Science, Commerce, Humanities, Vocational may be chosen in order of preference.

6. Document Verification & Admission

After the result, selected candidates must provide documents for verification (birth certificate, residence proof, study certificate, category certificate if applicable, medical fitness, etc.).

Eligibility

For Class IX Lateral Entry

  • The candidate should be studying in Class VIII during the relevant academic session.
  • Age Limit (Date of Birth): Between 01.05.2010 to 31.07.2012 (both inclusive).
  • The student must be a resident of the district and be studying in a recognized school in that same district.

For Class XI Lateral Entry

  • The candidate should be studying in Class X in the current academic session in a Govt / Govt-recognized school in the same district where the JNV is located.
  • Age Limit (Date of Birth): Between 01.06.2008 to 31.07.2010 (both inclusive).
  • The student must be from the same district of residence and study.
